Ecogee delivers retrofit improvements at Irwell Valley Homes sheltered scheme

Ecogee has completed retrofit improvements at Fontwell Sheltered Scheme for Irwell Valley Homes, helping improve the energy efficiency, comfort and long-term performance of 33 flats.

The project included a range of measures designed to support warmer, healthier and more efficient homes for residents. Works included high heat retention storage heaters, new hot water cylinders, solar PV systems, ventilation upgrades and loft insulation to top floor properties.

By combining renewable technologies with practical energy efficiency improvements, the project supports better living conditions for residents while helping reduce energy use across the scheme.

A whole-home approach to retrofit

Successful retrofit is about more than installing one measure. It means looking at how each property performs and delivering improvements that work together to create better outcomes.

At Fontwell Sheltered Scheme, the package of works was designed to improve heating, hot water, ventilation, insulation and renewable energy generation.

The measures included:

  • High heat retention storage heaters, helping homes retain and manage heat more effectively
  • New hot water cylinders, supporting improved hot water performance
  • Solar PV systems, helping generate renewable electricity
  • Ventilation upgrades, supporting airflow and indoor air quality
  • Loft insulation to top floor properties, helping reduce heat loss

Together, these improvements will help support warmer homes, lower energy use and greater comfort for residents.

Supporting residents and tackling fuel poverty

For many households, energy efficiency improvements can make a significant difference to everyday life.

Warmer homes can support better comfort and wellbeing, while more efficient systems and renewable technologies can help residents manage energy use more effectively.

Projects like this are particularly important in sheltered housing settings, where residents may be more vulnerable to the impact of cold homes, high energy costs and poor indoor environments.

Ecogee’s work at Fontwell Sheltered Scheme reflects the wider purpose behind retrofit: improving homes in a way that delivers real benefits for the people living in them.

Partnership working with Irwell Valley Homes

The project is also a strong example of partnership working between Ecogee and Irwell Valley Homes.

For housing providers, successful retrofit depends on confidence in delivery. That means clear communication, technical capability, quality installation and a delivery partner who understands the importance of working carefully in residents’ homes.

Ecogee supports housing providers with practical retrofit delivery, helping improve the performance of homes while keeping resident outcomes at the centre of the process.

Warmer Homes. Real Impact.

The Fontwell Sheltered Scheme project demonstrates how funded retrofit programmes can help housing providers improve homes, support residents and contribute to wider decarbonisation goals.

By delivering improvements across heating, hot water, ventilation, insulation and renewable energy, Ecogee is helping create homes that are warmer, more comfortable and more efficient for the future.
