A joint reflection on Torentum Court from Ecogee’s David Nunes and Andrew Smith

We wanted to ask the people involved what they thought about our latest job at Torentum Court. It was a scheme where planning and resident engagement really lined up. Ecogee delivered retrofit to 33 flats for Regenda Homes in an older block in Fleetwood, to make them warmer and cheaper to run.

Here’s how we went from EPC D to EPC C!

David Nunes (Project Lead at Ecogee) and Andrew Smith (Retrofit Assessor at Ecogee) share their reflections on the installation of 132 solar panels installed at Regenda Homes’ Torentum Court, part of a £700k+ energy efficiency programme.

Delivering the project – Dave’s view

“For me, the delivery was smooth and efficient. Because this is a supported living scheme, we knew that from day one the communication had to be patient, frequent and clear. Some residents had extra support needs, some needed some extra notice, and some just needed a bit more reassurance. That part of our job was really important.

The energy efficiency was a big driver, the scheme started off at EPC D, installing solar panels and insulation was going to make a big long term difference to the scheme. In a cost of living climate and people on fixed income, stability of bills matters.

This project was a strong partnership between Ecogee and Regenda homes, we worked together on this complex scheme to make sure it was delivered to a high standard.”

Team and Quality – Andrew’s view

“Looking through the progress photos with residents, I’m really proud of how far the building has come. The before and after photos speak for themselves, it looks impressive and you can see that care went into every stage of the work. My retrofit team is small but mighty! We handled everything from survey to final inspection and because we’re first on site, we’re also the first faces the residents meet from Ecogee. This means a lot of conversations about what is going to happen when the work starts and why is a positive thing. Those early chats made a big difference, the residents trusted us.

The teamwork on this project, especially with the TLO’s meant any issues were sorted quickly and the information flowed well between teams. Residents weren’t left wondering what was going on. From chatting with residents, I could feel that sense of relief when they realised the improvements weren’t just cosmetic, the upgrades would make life easier and more comfortable in reality.

During my post‑inspections, I often ended up having conversations with residents about how the solar panels work and what benefits they’d see. A lot of people loved the aerial footage of the roof in particular. Once they saw how many panels were up there, everything clicked, it’s easy to understand how much energy can be produced once you see the scale.”
